That was one of the most cathartic things that has happened to me in maybe ever. There was a frozen moment when, after you read the sample piece Cindy, full of restraint-free rage and intelligence, then told us to let loose and go for it ourselves, that we looked at each other shyly as if to say, really?? We're allowed to do this? And then a delicious transition happened, when we all realized that hell yes we're allowed to do this, and omg do I have a lot to say. When we came back after the writing break we were breathless from the relief, and the feeling of freedom and power that exercise gave us. When we started sharing our pieces it was amazing...I am still buzzing from the thrill. I've been working on a re-write all week, I can't seem to stop, about a guy with a giant clam of a face, and an orange comb over... Thank you, jeez what a gift.

I love this whole paragraph! Man, did you guys deliver. I had no idea what the outcome would be and you were the perfect group to try it. It made me so happy. Please submit the edited version of your piece so we can talk about it? And thanks so much for this.

Honestly, I will never EVER forget that class. And I will definitely submit the piece. I just have to stop adding things to the list I hate about Giant Clam Man.

Challenge accepted, Cindy. I’ve been thinking writing about my rage every time I learn something new about animal welfare too. I write about my rages in my journal, but I will turn it into essays. I have dark art ideas I’ve been brainstorming too. Love this piece of yours.

I'd love to see that in your work, Ann.

Like anything hate has its place and a prompt is a good place for it.

Yes! I think you're right.

Loved reading this! This great prompt you gave tapping into hate seemed to lead to joy of all places. That would have been something, hearing what was produced and shared that night!

It surprised me so much. I had no idea how fun it would be. At one point, a writer told the writer who had just read, "I don't think you saw this on the screen because you were reading, but when you got to the second part, P. threw her head back and roared with laughter." I love that kind of surprise.

Haha yes it strikes me as a great prompt to elicit some funny writing ! It seems like a lot of stand-up can be categorized under the header of “Things that Bug the Sh&t Out of Me”
